All Hands on Deck

Aye aye, Captain!

Environment and Set Up

  • Find a safe space with even ground (non slip).
  • Establish three areas: use cones or markers to mark out the deck in the middle, then one side of the play space is a ship, and the opposite side is the shore.

Rules

  • One person is the Captain, who barks the orders.
  • If the Captain says “All hands on deck!” everyone must run to the deck and sit down.
  • If the Captain says “Attention!” this means everyone must stand in military style.
  • If the Captain says “Salute!” everyone must salute in unison.
  • If the Captain says “All hands on ship!” everyone must run to the shipside.
  • If the Captain says “All hands ashore!” everyone must run to the shore side.
  • Change over every few goes so everyone has a turn at being Captain.
  • Keep playing until everyone has had at least one turn at being Captain (or more, depending on the size of your family).
